Image Archivist and Library Assistant

Reporting to the Digital Content Producer, the Image Archivist and Library Assistant will be part of a global team responsible for stewarding digital image files for a wide-range of gallery uses and supporting maintenance of the Beverly Hills library collection. This role will coordinate new photography of artworks and installations, assign metadata to those files, and be part of a team that is regularly ingesting the resulting assets into a Digital Asset Management System following predetermined guidelines. When third parties reach out to the gallery for copyright permissions on several California-based gallery artists, this position will coordinate those approvals and conversations with artist liaisons or the artist’s studio. As an assistant in the library, this candidate will be responsible for the book collection on site, including monitoring circulation of publications and maintaining shelf order.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask, work both independently and collaboratively, with superb communication and organizational skills, and an eye for detail. 

Duties include but are not limited to
– Managing photography of incoming artworks and exhibition installations
– Coordinating with external photographers by providing details to guide best shoot scenarios for individual artworks and exhibition installation views (advising on details, scale shots, alternate views, special lighting scenarios, etc.)
– Ingest images into the gallery’s digital asset management system, including assigning metadata and contributing to ongoing metadata cleanup projects
– Creating to-scale digital art mock ups and scaled exhibition model chips in Photoshop
– Fielding and facilitating incoming press requests; liaising with internal staff and external rights agencies
– Clearing images for press for upcoming exhibitions and art fairs
– Maintain physical library shelves on site
– Answer reference questions about the on site library collection from staff
– Create spine labels for new acquisitions and add local holdings to library catalog records
– Contribute to procedural documentation as needed
– Maintain a knowledge of current and past gallery exhibitions, the Gagosian artist roster, and their corresponding books and informational resources
– Maintain gallery stock of catalogues for clients, assist staff in catalogue selection if needed
– Submitting invoices and maintaining expense reports
– Ad hoc projects as assigned

Qualifications for this role
– 1–3 years experience of relevant work with digital image files in a gallery environment or library
– Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge
–Knowledge of contemporary art and art galleries preferred
– Ability to efficiently manage long-term projects alongside a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
– Must be discrete and able to manage confidential material 

Preferred qualifications
–Experience with monday.com, Artlogic, and SketchUp
–Experience with digital asset management systems
–Photography experience

Position Type
Full-Time/Regular/Non-Exempt/Salaried position with overtime. The position schedule is Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30am–6pm, with additional hours as needed.

Compensation
$50,000 - $60,000, annually
