Catalogue Raisonné 1984–2004
Available in October 2020, this comprehensive three-volume title chronologically illustrates every recorded work from the first two decades of Zeng Fanzhi’s career, including his early portraits and abstract works, as well as the celebrated Hospital (1991–92), Meat (1992–94), and Mask (1994–2004) series. Edited by Gladys Chung and supported by Gagosian, the publication features major essays by Fumio Nanjo, Phillippe Dagen, and Johnson TZ Chang, along with never before published artworks, preparatory studies, and documentary photographs. A Chinese addendum of all texts is included.

To celebrate the release of Zeng Fanzhi: Catalogue Raisonné 1984–2004, the Fanzhi Foundation for Art and Education is hosting an online conversation and exhibition of early works made by the artist, in his hometown of Wuhan, China. Three of Zeng’s former professors from Hubei Institute of Fine Art—Pi Daojian, Wei Guangqing, and Fang Shaoh—and Shanghart founder Lorenz Helbling will speak about the artist’s practice on October 22, at 2am EDT (2pm HKT). The online conversation will be conducted in Chinese. The event is free and open to the public on WeChat and Zaiyi.
