Celebrating Cy Twombly

In celebration of what would have been Cy Twombly’s ninetieth birthday, and on the occasion of his two solo exhibitions at Gagosian New York, the Gagosian Shop, New York, is highlighting the vast body of literature and scholarship on the work and life of Cy Twombly. Shop Highlight: Celebrating Cy Twombly will include the eight-volume Catalogue Raisonné of Drawings, the six-volume Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings, as well as the recently revised Catalogue Raisonné of the Printed Graphic Work. We will also feature exhibition posters as well as scarce and out-of-print titles that help provide a full overview of Twombly’s oeuvre.

In celebration of FIAC in Paris, Gagosian is pleased to collaborate with Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées on a two-floor pop-up takeover featuring products related to Gagosian artists. On the first floor, the Coin Culture section will feature catalogues, posters, apparel, and audio productions. The second floor, the Library, will house an additional selection of limited-edition books, publications, and catalogues raisonnés.

Cy Dear (2018), a film that traces the life and work of Cy Twombly, will be screened at the Louvre, on the occasion of FIAC 2019. The documentary pays homage to the artist’s prolific career, looking closely at his work around the world and the different creative periods within his oeuvre. The film is in English, Italian, and German with French and English subtitles. The event is free to attend.

As part of the Frieze Masters Talks program, Edmund de Waal will discuss the work of Cy Twombly with Christine Kondoleon of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. De Waal has a particular affinity for Twombly’s ability to create works that are simultaneously personal and mythological, allowing narrative, language, and inner visions to erupt from his intimate, abstract notations. Pittura/Panorama: Paintings by Helen Frankenthaler, 1952–1992 marks the first time that Frankenthaler’s paintings have been exhibited in Venice since her inclusion in the 1966 Biennale as part of the US Pavilion. This video, including interviews with the show’s curator, John Elderfield; the chairman of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, Clifford Ross; and the Foundation’s executive director, Elizabeth Smith, provides viewers with an in-depth look at the fourteen paintings included in the exhibition.
