In this video Urs Fischer and FIGS founder Heather Hasson discuss their collaboration with RxArt on a project for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Fischer will create artwork to be applied to pajamas designed by FIGS for children to wear during their hospital stay.

Urs Fischer mines the potential of materials—from clay, steel, and paint to bread, dirt, and produce—to create works that disorient and bewilder. Through scale distortions, illusion, and the juxtaposition of common objects, his paintings, sculptures, photographs, and large-scale installations explore themes of perception and representation while maintaining a witty irreverence and mordant humor.

Urs Fischer: Paintings 1998–2017 is available for online reading from June 24 through June 30, 2020, as part of Artist Spotlight: Urs Fischer. Published by the artist’s imprint Kiito-San, the three-volume monograph is the first retrospective publication dedicated solely to Fischer’s paintings, organizing nearly two decades of work into a taxonomy conceptualized by the artist. The monograph is available for purchase at Gagosian Shop.

Gagosian will host a conversation on Piero Manzoni with Urs Fischer and curator Francesco Bonami to celebrate the English-language release of Flaminio Gualdoni’s biography of the iconic Italian Conceptual artist, published by the gallery. Manzoni’s brief career was one of the most radically inventive of the twentieth century, producing a body of work that continues to challenge definitions of artistic sovereignty and virtuosity.
