Gagosian is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new paintings by Jadé Fadojutimi at Frieze London 2022. Transforming the booth into an immersive, energetic environment of seven monumental paintings, Fadojutimi envelops visitors in a vibrant symphony of color. With this ambitious cycle of works, she composes and conducts, orchestrating different configurations of painterly fragments until she finds harmony between color, form, gesture, and emotion.

Fadojutimi intersperses her fluid, spectral abstractions with shimmering allusions to the natural world. Preserved within layers of acrylic, oil paint, and oil pastel, celestial forms and imagery of foliage speak to broader notions of growth, renewal, and timelessness. But while Fadojutimi’s work indulges in color, texture, and the rich beauty of our natural environment, her distinctive aesthetic is the result of a dedicated process of personal reflection. The works created for Frieze London form part of an ongoing exploration of space, line, and movement, as well as a determined quest for self-knowledge. In combining these strategies, Fadojutimi interprets and rearticulates the everyday experience in ways that are at once compelling and confrontational, reflecting a drive to understand the otherwise indescribable—yet perpetually intertwined—ideas of identity and beauty.

Unveiled to coincide with her exhibition Can we see the colour green because we have a name for it? at the Hepworth Wakefield, Fadojutimi’s presentation at Frieze London celebrates a practice that continues to expand, evolve, and innovate.
