Artist Liaison

Gagosian seeks an Artist Liaison to join its Upper East Side team.

The Artist Liaison will report to the Senior Director and support a designated number of artists on Gagosian’s roster. The Artist Liaison will play a pivotal role in facilitating and maintaining close relationships among clients, artists, studio representatives, curators, and internal stakeholders by advising and advocating for artists’ needs.This position requires a candidate who can seamlessly navigate the demands of a dynamic art environment while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service. Exceptional customer service skills are essential for success in this role.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment across various situations, coupled with superior written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational abilities. A proactive, can-do attitude is crucial, as the role demands a self-starter who excels under pressure and anticipates the ongoing needs of both artists and the Senior Director.

Duties include but not limited to
– Liaise between artists, museums, and the gallery for institutional exhibitions
– Conduct research to develop an in-depth understanding of artists’ practices and effectively communicate this knowledge to staff, clients, and visitors. Manage artists’ production, exhibition, and fair schedules
– Cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with the studios of artists represented by the Director, providing logistical and project management support on behalf of the gallery
– Assist with exhibitions, including logistical support for installations, sales presentations, press, and marketing
– Coordinate publication process for artists’ books, exhibition catalogues, etc.
– Facilitate incoming press requests
– Plan and monitor budgets, preparing cost estimates for exhibitions or other projects
– Regularly review and ensure the accuracy of all documents circulated by the gallery to the public, including bios, press packets, research PDFs
– Maintain integrity of internal information, files on the gallery database, record-keeping systems for sales, consignments, offers, client management etc.
– Ad hoc projects as assigned

Qualifications and requirements
– Minimum of 3 years of Artist Liaison experience
– BA degree, Art History or related field
– Previous experience working with an art gallery, auction house or museum strongly preferred, along with a working knowledge of and passion for modern and contemporary art
– Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills
– The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and work independently is a must
– Must be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy in previous positions
– Impeccable attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills. Exhibit the highest standards of verbal and written communication at all times
– Skill in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
– Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when necessary, no task too small mentality
– Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite and database software

Position Type
Salaried, Exempt. Monday through Friday. 100% on-site.

Compensation
$75,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
