Gagosian is pleased to announce The Extreme Present, the fifth in a series of annual exhibitions at the Moore Building in the Miami Design District during Art Basel Miami Beach, presented by Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch. The Extreme Present will explore artists’ reactions to the conditions of our accelerating and increasingly complex world. The title is inspired by The Age of Earthquakes: A Guide to the Extreme Present, a book by Shumon Basar, Douglas Coupland, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, published in 2015. Their provocative thesis addresses the rapidly evolving digital era, half a century after Marshall McLuhan’s groundbreaking study on technology’s influence on culture, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, in which he coined the phrase “the medium is the message.” Works in this exhibition explore concepts of media, communication, togetherness, and isolation.

Join us for a tour of A line (a)round an idea at Gagosian, Geneva. The exhibition, which presents black-and-white works on paper spanning a period of seventy years, includes work by Richard Artschwager, Georg Baselitz, Bruce Conner, Willem de Kooning, Günther Förg, Sam Francis, Keith Haring, Christine Hiebert, Hans Hofmann, Franz Kline, Brice Marden, Henri Matisse, Robert Motherwell, Ad Reinhardt, Richard Serra, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and others. Gagosian’s Johan Nauckhoff will give an overview of the exhibition, focusing on ways in which modern and contemporary artists have explored the clarity and activating power of the simple line, mark, splatter, or stroke. Donna De Salvo on Andy Warhol

Gagosian App for iPad
Gagosian announces the release of issue 3 of the Gagosian App for iPad on January 22, 2012. Artists featured in this issue include Damien Hirst, Howard Hodgkin, Mike Kelley, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Paul Noble, Richard Prince, Jenny Saville, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol, and Zeng Fanzhi.
In issue 3 we feature a Damien Hirst “art board” that explores more than ninety spot paintings, offer a 360˚ full-motion interactive experience of Richard Serra sculptures Junction (2011) and Cycle (2010), and display a worldwide map of the Jeff Koons’s Celebration series exhibition history. Gagosian App for iPad
Gagosian announces the release of issue 2 of the Gagosian App for iPad on September 22, 2011. Artists featured in this issue include Cecily Brown, John Chamberlain, Douglas Gordon, Arshile Gorky, Joel Morrison, Takashi Murakami, Elizabeth Peyton, Pablo Picasso, Ed Ruscha, Mark Tansey, Robert Therrien, and Andy Warhol.
In issue 2 experience Douglas Gordon’s film k.364 (2010)through a dual-channel 3-D room, explore the world of Robert Therrien as he transforms elements from everyday life into works of art that evoke mythic archetypes, and trace the evolution of economics over time through key figures identified in Mark Tansey’s EC 101 (2009), viewing fine-grained detail in high resolution with gigapixel zoom and artwork rotator. We also introduce the issue manager, which allows users to store and browse multiple issues at once.

Shape of Light presents a survey of Vassar’s collection of close to 4,500 photographs. Building on a wealth of new materials, research, and scholarship that has emerged since the artist’s untimely death in 1987, this exhibition, curated by Donna De Salvo, reveals new complexities about the Warhol we think we know, and introduces a Warhol for the twenty-first century. This exhibition originated at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

Andy Warhol’s Shadows (1978–79) was first presented by Dia in 1979. A single painting in multiple parts, Shadows is one of Warhol’s most abstract works, yet one that cohesively synthesizes key elements of his practice, including film, painting, photography, and screen printing. The installation surrounds the viewer with a series of canvases, presented edge-to-edge around the perimeter of the room, in conformity with Warhol’s original vision. Most recently the work was installed by Dia at the Calvin Klein Headquarters in New York.
