Anne Baldassari

Anne Baldassari joined the French Ministry of Culture in 1983, where she was responsible for a program that presented public commissions of contemporary art at monuments and heritage sites. In this context, she initiated in 1984 the project of creating stained-glass windows for the Cathédrale Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte in Nevers, France, with Simon Hantaï and Sam Francis. In 1985, she joined the Musée national d’art moderne–Centre Pompidou in Paris, and in 1992, she was appointed to the Musée national Picasso–Paris, where she was curator, director, and then president of the museum until 2014. Personally linked to Simon Hantaï and his family since 1984, she published the complete catalogue of the artist’s work in the collection of the Musée national d’art moderne–Centre Pompidou (1992), and curated Simon Hantaï: L’exposition du centenaire at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, (2022) to mark the centenary of the artist’s birth in 1922.
