Sally Mann

Born in 1951 in Lexington, Virginia, Sally Mann has always remained close to her roots. She has photographed extensively in the American South, producing portrait, architecture, landscape, and still life series. She is perhaps best-known for her intimate portraits of her family, including her young children and her husband, and for her evocative and resonant landscapes of the American South. At times controversial, her work has always been influential, and has attracted a wide audience since the time of her first solo exhibition, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, in 1977.
