Gagosian is pleased to announce Richard Artschwager’s first solo exhibition since joining the gallery.

One of the most influential artists of our time, Artschwager is primarily known as a conceptual sculptor and painter. Artschwager’s work mixes pictorial and object forms that challenge our perception of the two and three-dimensional image as seen in the two bodies of work that make up this exhibition.

The first series of Floor Works are comprised of Chairs—an object that Artschwager has studied since the early 1960s. The current series are Ls and Ts covered in black-and-white photographs, all portraits of various family members and friends. The chair by the artist’s own words are “people surrogates.” These frozen figures are both representational and abstract.
