Works Exhibited

About

Gagosian is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Howard Hodgkin.

The paintings in this exhibition have all been completed within the last three years. During this period, not only has Hodgkin created the largest works in his significant body of art, but he has also introduced a new and darker note to his subjects. While in the past his works have been stimulated by lush and exotic locations such as Venice or India, these new paintings confront such complex emotions as the passing of time, the loss of friends, and reflection. Hodgkin’s current paintings, especially the large works, reinforce the English sensibility of publicly scaled paintings attuned to the ways in which landscape and the colors of the sky can be “objective correlatives” of states of mind and human relationships.

Howard Hodgkin: Paintings will travel to Gagosian Beverly Hills in 2004.
