Venice Family Clinic Art Walk
Benefit Auction 2021

April 28–May 12, 2021

Venice Family Clinic presents its annual benefit auction, a fundraising event whose proceeds will provide essential health care services to people in the community regardless of their income, immigration, or insurance status. Since its inception forty years ago, this charity event has raised more than $23 million. This year’s auction, hosted on Artsy, is honoring Mary Weatherford as the “signature artist” and features more than two hundred works by nationally recognized contemporary artists, including Piero Golia, Ed Ruscha, Robert Therrien, as well as Weatherford. To celebrate the publication of The Films of Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné, 1963–1965, Volume 2, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, is hosting a conversation about Andy Warhol’s practice as a filmmaker. John G. Hanhardt, general editor of the catalogue raisonné, will be joined by film scholar Bruce Jenkins and filmmaker Tom Kalin, both contributors to the publication, to discuss the history of Warhol’s engagement with cinema and share insights into why Warhol’s films have been influential for generations of artists. When New York looks at the School of Paris

An online symposium will take place in conjunction with the exhibition Chaïm Soutine/Willem de Kooning, la peinture incarnée, currently on view at the Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris. At 4:30am est (10:30am cet) John Elderfield, chief curator emeritus of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, will speak with Claire Bernardi, chief curator of paintings at the Musée d’Orsay. The pair will discuss responses to the 1950 MoMA exhibition of Chaïm Soutine’s work as seen in Willem de Kooning’s paintings and in the writings of critic Clement Greenberg. Jenny Saville: A cyclical rhythm of emergent forms

An exhibition curated by Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento, Florence, pairs artworks by Jenny Saville with artists of the Italian Renaissance. On view across that city at the Museo Novecento, the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio, the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, the Museo degli Innocenti, and the Museo di Casa Buonarroti through February 20, 2022, the presentation features paintings and drawings by Saville from the 1990s through to work made especially for the occasion. Here, Risaliti reflects on the resonances and reverberations brought about by these pairings.
